In 2010 myself and my good friend Mr Edward J Saunders esquire will compete in a UK track and field decathlon.
In the process, we will aim to raise £3000 for charity.
We’re calling this our 3K Decathlon Challenge, as we also aim to each score 3000 points or more on the day we compete.
We will be raising money for the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, which provide care for children with life threatening conditions and for their families. The hospice is based in the UK, local to the area we live, in Stoke on Trent. Details on the charity will soon be available on the links section of the blogs home page.
We expect this challenge to be tough, but we’ll do it.
I’ll blame it all on Ed, as he came up with the idea. Truthfully, I didn’t take much persuading to join in.
Our rough date for completion of the challenge is August 2010, and this blog will be used to track progress towards our goal. All our training will be logged and there are tables on the main page which show how much or little progress we’re making.
For those that don’t know either of us well, we’ve been friends since we were about 10 years old, which is 27 years ago but who’s counting? It’s fair to say that we’re both the fittest we’ve ever been. Both of us are regular runners and have competed in all sorts of distanced road races through 2008 and 2009 from 1 mile up to Half Marathon.
Our main problem is that neither of us have done attempted any of the 10 decathlon events for around 25 years!! Lets not even think too much about the Pole Vault which neither of us have tried, ever!
Just starting to put the plan into place has caused us both difficulty in sleeping, not because of any stress, but through the fact that we’re both excited like kids at Christmas.
However tough it gets, we aim to enjoy it.
Please join us, support us, comment on our trials and tribulations and above all please sponsor us (if the link to our justgiving.com site does not appear on the main page, please come back very soon, as we’re still in the process of setting it up).
I guess we HAVE to do it now that you’ve made it public!! Bring it on!
