Planning & Coaching

Since the last update we’ve received our first donations towards our £3000 target for the Donna Louise Hospice. Thanks to those people who’ve supported us with donations so far, its very much appreciated.

We need all the support we can get from you and not just monetary support. If you’re reading this, please comment and let us know what you think. Give us your encouragement, suggestions or just post some banter. It’s all good.

Of course you can also just click here and make a donation too :)

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been off work with the flu and have felt really lousy so have done no exercise at all. Ed has soldiered on without me, going to his usual BMF sessions and also doing the London Parks Half Marathon. Expect big things from him when he’s next on the track ;-)

The big news is that we’ve written to and had replies from people who we think will be a big help to us in our training. We thought we may as well go for the best we can get and decided to approach a couple of well known British athletes. The worst that could happen is that they say no !

Cue two very excited 37 year olds, when both of those two athletes agreed to help. When I got the first email back I really couldn’t believe it, and wore a huge grin all day. Then a week or so later it happened again. We’re absolutely over the moon :)

I know you’re all dying to find out who they are. As soon as our donations pass the first £100 mark we’ll tell you. We aren’t stopping there though. The more experience we can get on board the better as our training will benefit immensely. Of course it’ll also help us publicise what we’re doing which can only be a good thing.

We’ve talked with the fundraisers at the Donna Louise Trust about publicity and they’ve given us a couple of ideas that we’re going to follow up to get local media coverage. At an opportune point in the future we’ll also have something advertising what we’re doing on their website, and they’ve offered to produce a poster for us too.

The next steps are to start training proper. This starts in the week commencing Sunday 1st November. We’re planning to do a mixture of circuits, running and technical work for the first few weeks (as advised by our athlete ‘friends’). Both of us will be cutting down our running mileage from what we’re used to, as the events of the Decathlon demand more explosive power over short distances than the stamina you’d need to run 5 or 6 miles. If anyone wants to come along and join us for a session, you’re more than welcome. Just leave a comment and we’ll let you know what our plans are. Like I said at the start, all the support is greatly appreciated.

Go on then, make a donation :) If you don’t want to or can’t make a donation on-line, you’re quite welcome to make a pledge too. Again either comment on here, or send either of us a message on facebook, text us – whatever you like. As Bob Geldof said just ‘give us your money’
