Targets

Tomorrow I’m in another 10K race, and its a chance to get another PB.

It’s a strange thing to be sitting here now with a real chance of going under 45mins for a 10K. My target was to do that by the end of 2009, and I planned to return to the Telford 10K in December to have a go at it. That’s where I set my current PB of 46m 20s in December 2008 in what was only my third ever race.

When I started running (March 08) I remember a colleague talking about how big a hurdle 50 mins is for the 10K. In May 08 another colleague did the Manchester 10K in about 47m 30s. Both time targets looked way beyond what I thought I could do.

Its good to look back on that and reflect on my own progression in the 18 months I’ve been a runner. It shows me that with consistent effort, I’m going to carry on improving and that the goals that now seem out of reach are attainable.

So tomorrow its off to the Antrobus Cabbage Canter http://www.cabbagecanter.org.uk

I’m confident as I can be. This time tomorrow I’ll know either way :)

I’ve also just entered my third Half Marathon of the year (Congleton, Cheshire). As long as the niggles that I’ve had lately stay away I’ll be having another go at the race where I set my PB in 2008. I don’t think I’m going to know whether another PB is likely there until just before the race. Half Marathon’s aren’t my main focus so we’ll just see what transpires on the day.
